Sixth Form

Results and Attainment

Message from Mr Peel- Head of Sixth Form:

I am thrilled that students at Bluecoat Academy Sixth Form have once again delivered an exceptional set of A level results this summer, despite the challenges of new linear A level specifications. These results show an increase in the overall attainment of our students, and suggest our students have exceeded national progress benchmarks for a 5th consecutive year, allowing them to progress on to their first choice of University, apprenticeship or chosen career path. This includes students progressing on to competitive entry courses including Medicine, Veterinary Medicine, Mechanical and Aeronautical engineering, Architecture and Nursing at some of the most prestigious Universities.

Students have achieved these results studying both A level and Vocational (Applied General and Technical Level) qualifications, ensuring they are well prepared for the challenges ahead.

I’m delighted that all of our students hard work has been rewarded with these results and wish them all every success for the future.

The Sixth Form has seen a period of sustained high levels of attainment on both academic and vocational qualifications. Our 2016/17 results saw the Sixth Form achieve positive Value Added/progress scores on both qualification types, as evidenced in the 16 – 18 performance tables for Nottingham City. A comparison of Nottingham City schools provided by the Department for Education can be found here.

This positive value added score indicates that our students make more progress than those of similar levels of prior attainment nationally, maximising their potential. These results allowed the majority of our students to take up a place at their first choice of university, including over 20% at Russell Group institutions and further success in other competitive entry courses such as medicine, nursing and primary teaching. For other students this has allowed them to progress on to their chosen apprenticeship or employment opportunity.
