GCSE Results Day 2025

Students at Bluecoat Aspley Academy celebrated their hard work this morning as they collected their GCSE results.  The Principal, Mrs Anderson said, “It has been a privilege to celebrate GCSE results with our students and families today.  These results are well-deserved, and we are proud of them all. Each individual success reminds us that every student at Bluecoat Aspley can achieve their potential, no matter what their starting point or background”.

We are delighted that many of our Year 11s have chosen to stay at Bluecoat Aspley to study A levels, Applied Generals, T Level courses or study on our Level 2 pathway within the Sixth Form.  Enrolment is now open for external students too.

Theodosia Godwin (All Grade 9s)

“I have always had high expectations of myself. At times, I have struggled with my mental health throughout my school journey. My faith helped me through difficult times and it came to the fore when it came to exams. I prayed before every exam to make sure I was prepared for what was to come.

I could not have done this without Mr Poxon, encouraging me. And Miss Wordsworth was so supportive of my Sixth Form Application.”

Abdulhameed Elgareidi (All Grade 9s)

“I think the key to my success was early preparation. When I got my mock exam feedback, I was encouraged to learn from my mistakes. It helped me to realise the importance of hard work. I got support from my friends and family, but also from the staff at Bluecoat Aspley. Mr Scattergood in Maths was always pushing me to improve. Mr Evans in Geography taught me for three years and made his classroom such a calm environment for learning”.

Abdulhameed’s father said, “I am very proud. I have always said to my children, “Keep going, there is light at the end of the tunnel. Today is that light.”

Nailah Nawshath (Grades 7-9)

Freya De-Ville Smith (Grades 7/7-9)

Evan Hatter (Grades 7-9)

Connor Cumberland (Grades 5-9)

Connor was diagnosed with long COVID in Year 9 which impacted his attendance and performance in school. Connor experienced daily symptoms of chronic fatigue, headaches and difficulty concentrating. Despite these challenges, Connor did not want any extra support in school. Connor would always say he is fine and that he could ‘get through this’. Respecting Connor’s request to decline support, we still monitored him closely and made allowances throughout the year where we could. Connor said he would not have been resilient and successful without the continuous support and praise from staff at Bluecoat Aspley. Connor said, “Seeing staff believe in me, made me believe in myself”.

Mehreen Alam (Grades 5-6)

Mehreen joined BAA in July 2024 following a supported transfer from another Nottingham school.  Mehreen faced many challenges with her mental health which impacted her social group, achievement and attendance. Despite her challenges, Mehreen showed resilience throughout the year and it was incredible to see her confidence grow as she settled in to the year group. Mehreen shared:

“Change is something that has always terrified me. It could be something as simple as changing my normal route to the shops, the idea would leave me anxious. So, when I was suddenly told I had to switch schools right before my year 10 mocks, my heart shattered, and it felt as if my life was completely over. I let the idea of a manage move rot in the back of my mind for a month, refusing to accept this. Until I told myself that I deserve an education and that moving to Bluecoat may be my only chance at that.

Adjusting to a new environment was and is challenging. I let any type of struggle completely topple me over and crush me, leading to me missing the most important year of my education. Whether it be my mum being close to having cancer or my hair just not sticking in the right direction, my emotions controlled me because I felt as though I was forced into a position I never wanted to be placed in, when it already felt like the world was against me, drowning me in unwanted issues.

Sometimes I wish I could tell past me that I’m going to be okay and that I survived. Not just survived but flourished. Transferring to Bluecoat gave me new passions and taught me so much about myself. I now know that I love writing and I’m taking English language as an A level. I wouldn’t have been able to discover this if it wasn’t from the support and praise from my English teachers. I’ve been told all my life that I have ‘potential’ but without a kickstart from my teachers, I don’t think I would be where I am now. Everyone at Bluecoat honestly saved my life and I mean that to the fullest. Without matchsticks, a lamp can never brighten the night.

I’ve also become more of an emotionally intelligent person.  I want to pursue a career at a funeral home.  I want to use my abilities to support others, especially families who are grieving, and people who unfortunately don’t have that familial circle, to make sure they deserve care in the afterlife.

Knowing that I have a whole career planned out makes me so hopeful and excited for the future, when in the past I was afraid I wouldn’t even make it past 16. I can never express my gratitude enough to Miss Kelvey and all of the staff at Bluecoat and I hope you change more students’ lives the same way you’ve changed mine”.

Elvis Ehiogie (Grades 5-8)

Elvis had a challenging year, with knockbacks from his football career which have had physical and emotional implications. Elvis did not let this get the better of him and continued to come to school every day and take time out when needed. Elvis really put his emotions to one side so he could focus on his studies. “My greatest challenges of Year 11 were balancing football with schoolwork and my knee injury. It felt like I was on crutches for most of the year which was tough and having a surgery a few weeks before GCSEs was both a mental and physical battle. I wouldn’t have been able to get through it all without the constant support received from the members of staff. The intervention sessions also definitely saved my grade in every subject (especially Miss Hall’s English and Mrs Harrison’s Biology). A special shout out to Miss Hall, Miss Kelvey, Mrs Wordsworth, Mr Turner, Miss Tavoni, Mr Reid, the entire P.E department and Miss Mitchell for always checking in on me. Every member of staff showed support, but those individuals really stuck out to me”.
